Francuski slikar Louis-François Cassas (1756.-1827.) proputovao je 1782. godine istočnom obalom Jadrana od Istre do južne Dalmacije. Tom prigodom izradio je brojne crteže koji su kasnije reproducirani u bakrotisku u knjizi „Voyage pittoresque et historique de l'Istrie et de la Dalmatie” (Paris, 1802.). Njegovi crteži Pule predstavljaju iznimno dragocjen izvor za poznavanje ovoga grada koncem 18. stoljeća, kako u arhitektonskom, tako i u arheološkom smislu.

Engleski arhitekt Thomas Allason (1790.-1852.) boravio je u Puli 1814. i 1816. godine. Tu je nastao njegov ciklus bakropisa s antičkim spomenicima Pule koje je objavio u svojoj putopisnoj knjizi „Pitoresque views of the Antiquities of Pola in Istria” (London, 1819.). Iz njegovih likovnih i tekstualnih prikaza Pule zrači snažan duh romantizma s atmosferom uzvišene, ali ne i depresivne napuštenosti. On je bio među posljednjima koji su Pulu vidjeli u takvom stanju, jer samo nekoliko desetljeća kasnije ona će naglo početi mijenjati svoj lik.

Le peintre français Louis-François Cassas (1756-1827) voyagea en 1782 sur la côte orientale de l'Adriatique de l'Istrie à la Dalmatie méridionale. A cette occasion il effectua de nombreux dessins qui furent plus tard reproduit en impression en taille douce dans le livre „Voyage pittoresque et historique de l'Istrie et de la Dalmatie” (Paris, 1802). Ses dessins sur Pula représentent une source extrêmement précieuse pour la connaissence de cette ville vers la fin du XVIII^e siècle, aussi bien du point de vue architectural qu'archéologique.

L'architecte anglais Thomas Allason (1790-1852) séjourna à Pula en 1814 et 1816. C'est alors que naquit son cycle de gravures sur cuivre représentant les monuments antiques de Pula qu'il publia dans son livre de voyage „Pitoresque views of the Antiquities of Pola in Istria” (Londres, 1819). De ses représentations artistiques et textuelles de Pula rayonne l'esprit du romantisme avec une atmosphère élevée, mais pas un abandon depréssif. Il a été parmi les derniers qui aient vu Pula dans set état, car quelques décennies plus tard elle commencera brusquement à changer son image.

The Franch painter Louis-François Cassas (1756-1827) travelled the East Adriatic coast from Istria to Southern Dalmatia in 1782. On that occasion he drew numerous sketches which were later reproduced in copperplate printing in his book „Voyage pittoresque et historique de l'Istrie et de la Dalmatie” (Paris, 1802). His sketches of Pula represent an exeptionally valuable source for getting to know this as it was at the end of the 18^th century, both in architectural and archaeological sense.

The English architect Thomas Allason (1790-1852) stayed in Pula in 1814 and 1816. Here his copperplate printing cycle with antique monuments of Pula was made and he published them in his travelogue „Pitoresque views of the Antiquities of Pola in Istria” (London, 1819). His visual and textual immagery of Pula radiates a powerful spirit of romanticism carrying the atmosphere of elevated but at the same time not depresive abandonment. He was among the lat to see Pula in that light, because only a few decades later it would start a rapid change.
